EDEKA Berlin

Berlin - Retail & Markets

Supermarket parking lots are always a particular challenge: there is a constant coming and going of supermarket customers, employees often park in the area for the duration of their shift and suppliers deliver to the stores. In addition, there are often other long-term parkers. However, as the parking spaces should be reserved for paying customers, parking discs are now compulsory in almost all supermarket parking lots.

These challenges also existed at the Edeka parking lot in Berlin. The search was on for a system that could be used to record parking procedures in accordance with the rules. At the same time, the aim was to prevent the supermarket's parking facilities from being used by people who parked illegally or from other people and to prevent the actual clientele from having problems finding a parking space.

PRM installed a digital system with license plate recognition in the Edeka parking lot. This makes it possible to record and organize the different customer groups. The parking area is not only used particularly efficiently during the opening hours of the Edeka supermarket: The system installed and operated by PRM also generates additional revenue through residents' parking spaces and night-time rental. Customers who make use of this option can log into the system via an app to pay for their usage times.

After installation, the digital system was very well received by parkers. Clear, easy-to-read signage made it easier for customers to get to know the new parking management system. Nevertheless, the Edeka supermarket and PRM opted for a temporary familiarization phase. Customer satisfaction and the greatest possible goodwill are therefore the cornerstones of parking space management in this parking area.
